Maynard Designs Two-Year Expansion Plan For Venezuela Shipyard
International management consultants H.B. Maynard and Company, Inc., 60 East 42nd Street, New York, N.Y. 10017, have designed a development plan for the DIANCA Naval Shipyard at Puerto Cabello, Venezuela, to increase shipyard capacity substantially over the next two years.
Maynard's proposals for effective planning, management methods, and worker training were presented to the four Venezuelan Ministers responsible for trade, industry, economics, and planning. The Venezuelan government is committed to spend approximately $35 million on the development project.
Physical f a c i l i t i e s are now practically completed. The twoyear target is to increase capacity for the repair of 240 vessels up to 30,000 dwt, and the construction of three new ships up to 15,000 dwt per year. This expansion will provide jobs for 800 workers in addition to the 500 already employed at DIANCA.
Eight consultants from Maynard's Shipbuilding Division have been drawn from the United States, Europe, and Scandinavia to analyze the market for ship repair and devise a plan for staff recruitment and training.
Maynard is cooperating with Multiproyectos Sigma, a Venezuelan consulting firm, to develop plans for the infrastructure needed at Puerto Cabello to support the expanded DIANCA Shipyard.
